Portland — June 12, 2008 (Dedham) – Portland, Maine resident Sarah Bohlman, was recently honored on the field at Fenway Park prior to the Boston Red Sox game against the Seattle Mariners on June 7 2008. Sarah, who was named the Blood Donor of the Game TM after recently donating blood, stated, “I felt very honored to be recognized as Blood Donor of the Game TM. It was a wonderful experience.”

“Together with the Boston Red Sox and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the American Red Cross is proud to honor lucky presenting donors with our Blood Donor of the Game Program TM. Fans are invited to enter for a chance of a lifetime by volunteering to help save a life of a patient in need,” explained Donna M. Morrissey, Director of Public Relations and Corporate Affairs for the American Red Cross Blood Services – Northeast Division.

All those who come to donate blood at any blood drive or donor center in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont from now until September 17, 2008 will have the opportunity to enter to win the honor of becoming the Blood Donor of the Game. In addition to winning two tickets to a game at legendary Fenway Park, the Blood Donor of the GameTM will be presented with a commemorative souvenir and a photograph, as well as special on-field recognition.

“We at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center see patients each and every day who rely on the generosity of volunteer blood donors,” said Paul Levy, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. “We are proud to support the Blood Donor of the Game Program in hopes of raising awareness of the need for blood, so it will continue to be readily available for all patients in need.”

To donate blood and platelets through the American Red Cross, individuals must be at least 17 years of age*, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. The American Red Cross has been a primary supplier of lifesaving blood products in the United States for more than 50 years. The American Red Cross Blood Services – Northeast Divisions supplies a wide range of blood components, plasma derivatives, and transfusion services to more than 200 hospitals and other medical facilities throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. It serves the blood needs of more than 9 million residents and many thousand more who travel to New England for care at many of the nation’s top medical centers. *Residents of the state of Maine may donate blood at the age of 16 with parental consent.
