Another Disappointing Ballpark Vote
Contributed by Tim V myMaineToday.com 2008-06-11

Old Orchard Beach — Yet again residents failed to sell the defunct ballpark the leaving the never-ending drama to continue. There is a misconception in town that the ballpark is the last open space. The truth is the ballpark is an unused mess, leaving it in disrepair and failing to use it for anything is worse then selling it. There are plenty of parks in town such as memorial park, which we continue to fund thousands of dollars to. There is Guild Park in Ocean Park and lets not for get 3 miles of sandy beach. We cannot afford to sit on 3 million dollars worth of vacant land just to have it. We should take the 3 million dollars from would be sale right out of the school budget, which also didn’t deserve a pass after the behavior of our so called national schools of excellence teachers and staff at the budget meeting. In the end the same voters who rejected the sale, approved the bond and school budget will have no one else to blame when they have to move because they are taxed out of there homes. We’ll have plenty of open space then.
